Is the United States a racist nation ?

Born on the ashes of the First Nations’ genocide, America was built upon segregation and thrived thanks to slavery.

Blacks were emancipated in 1865, but in theory only. They had to wait another hundred years to finally enjoy their democratic rights. Today, despite the election in 2008 of the first Black President in the country’s history, inequalities between communities remain strong.

Over the recent years, police brutality against African-Americans (the murders of Freddie Gray, Eric Garner…) has shed light upon a deeply rooted reality in American society: institutional racism.

African-Americans and Latinos are primarily concerned.
